symposiums
18 - 22 07/2022

K-Theory and Representation Theory

Organisers: Nigel Higson (Penn State)
Roger Plymen (Manchester)
Haluk Sengun (Sheffield)

Funding: Core funding from the Isaac Newton Institute
Sponsor: Institute for Mathematical Innovation

This is a synergistic intra-disciplinary symposium that will focus on new and developing links between operator K-theory and representation theory.

18 - 29 07/2022

New Directions in Water Waves, Workshop and Summer School

Organisers: Vera Mikyoung Hur (University of Illinois)
Paul Milewski (University of Bath)
Philippe Trinh (University of Bath)
Miles Wheeler (University of Bath)

Funder: Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI)
Sponsor: Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI)

Water waves are an active contemporary topic in the mathematical sciences, with deep implications for numerous scientific, industrial, and engineering applications. This symposium will focus on recent results, in both pure and applied mathematics, which go beyond the traditional techniques designed for two-dimensional and irrotational flows.

01 - 05 08/2022

Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry Workshop

Organisers: Diane Maclagan (University of Warwick)
Gregory G. Smith (Queen's University)
Johannes Hofscheier (University of Nottingham)

Funder: International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS)
Foundation Compositio Mathematica
Sponsor: Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI)

We will focus on three interconnected topics that have enjoyed ground-breaking advances in the past few years:

1) Combinatorial moduli spaces
2) Combinatorial Hodge theory
3) Toric degeneration
